We know many of you don’t visit the site on a regular basis and depend on our social media posts. Here’s what we do on each channel and how to make sure you are notified of each post
On Facebook, we geo-target our posts. If you live in New York City for example, you will only see deals that originate out of New York. We publish our posts according to this schedule (times in Eastern):
- 9AM – Washington D.C.
- 10AM – New York
- 11AM – East Coast City
- 12PM – San Francisco
- 1PM – West Coast / East Coast City
- 2PM – West Coast / East Coast City
- 3PM – Los Angeles
- 4PM – West Coast / East Coast City
- 6PM – Content post (if we have one)
The reason we geo-target the posts is to make sure you only see the relevant deals. We don’t necessarily believe in positioning for a flight deal – i.e. New Yorkers traveling to Boston to take advantage of their deals.
If you have liked The Flight Deal Facebook page, we also recommend that you select “Get Notifications”. To do this, go to The Flight Deal Facebook page, and click on the down arrow on the Liked button and select Get Notifications like this:
Like Facebook, we also tweet on a schedule everyday between 9AM Eastern and 4PM Eastern. The difference on Twitter is that you will see ALL the deals versus just the one that you been geo-targeted for. On some days, we do tweet previous days deals at 7AM and 8AM. If you want the complete feed, following us on Twitter is the best bet. All our flight deals tweets are in the following format:
#Airfare Deal: [AIRLINE CODE] Departing From – Destination. Price. Post Link. #travel. So a deal on American from New York to Los Angeles for $296 would be like this:
#Airfare deal: [AA] New York – Los Angeles (and vice versa). $296 r/t. Details: link. #travel
Deals with vice versa means it works both ways. Deals without that means it’s just for one direction.
All the deals on the posted/tweeted hour are done the night before. When we break a deal that is not close to the hour between 9AM and 4PM Eastern, it means it is a good deal that we couldn’t wait to schedule it for the next day. So if you see us tweet or post something on Facebook at 10:32AM, it means you really should pay attention.
Getting help on Social Media from us
In general, we are more active on a daily basis on Twitter than Facebook. If you need help with a deal posts or have a travel question, tweeting us at @TheFlightDeal will probably receive a quick response. But, cut us some slack — tweeting us at 3AM and expecting an answer is probably going to take us a lot longer to response than tweeting between 9AM and 5PM Eastern.
As always, thanks for your continued support!
