How come there are not many deals from Atlanta? We need deals too.

@Jacks – Atlanta is a very difficult deal market. For deals from Atlanta, please follow our affiliate site, Fare Deal Alert

Could you please explain how the fare deal alert is different than your flight deals.
I live near Detroit and you never list any flight deals for detroit, but I see that Detroit is listed on the fare deal alert and don’t understand the difference…

@billc – Detroit is a difficult deal city. The Flight Deal cities, through historic data, we know we can do at least 15 deals a month that meets our 6 cents per mile criterion. Fare Deal Alert cities cover cities that are large but just don’t have the deal flow nor the deal diversity. Historically, that’s about 50-10 deals that meets our 6 cents per mile criterion a month.

Would you mind if you also post a deal list for the Fare Deal Alert cities? It would be good to compare a total of 22 cities by the number of flight deals.

Also, I’m surprised the deal list doesn’t include Spirit and Allegiant. The Bay Area, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, the Philadelphia area, Miami, and Phoenix all have a hub for Spirit and/or Allegiant. So, this 2014 deal list understates the number of deals out of those cities, and some of the Fare Deal Alert cities. I would appreciate it if you start tracking fares on those two airlines.

@Brandon – we do not cover Spirit or Allegiant. Besides our 6 cents per mile criterion, another unstated deal criterion is that it must earn useful miles. Inexpensive travel is a long game, and the cheapest way to travel is collecting useful miles with one of the 3 major alliances. It isn’t possible to go to Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific for like 135,000 miles + about $50 in taxes with Spirit or Allegiant miles, but can with AA.

As for a deal list for Fare Deal Alert city, we might put one up, but no plans to right now. Would say for the exception of Houston, all the cities are under 100 deals for the year.

We need deals from Detroit …

The Flight Deal 9 years ago Reply

@Bindia – we cover Detroit on our affiliate site – Fare Deal Alert. The reason why we have a separate site is that Detroit is a difficult deal market and is low volume.

Really helpful, thanks! Have you considered formatting the daily email summary as a table?

The Flight Deal 9 years ago Reply

@John – no. We are switching to a new email vendor soon. The format will change a lot. But none of the mockups we are working on will have a table.

thanks for the great service in 2014….the stats go to prove that where there is more competition, we get more deals and also some of the best 🙂

@shiva – competition makes everything better!

Happy new years guys. Thank you for the service you provide. I’m not sure if you save me money or make me spend more! haha. Your site has been invaluable and I have been able to go to many countries for half the price. Do you have an automated process for finding these deals or is there a lot of manual work? I notice most deals all get posted at once, but I often check late at night or early morning sometimes you will post a pretty good deal. How long have you ran this site and where did you get the idea from?

    A few suggestions:

    1. I don’t know how often you do it, but I loved that deal from Mexico City to Rio/Sao Paulo. I think you guys should post deals like that more often, even though they don’t fall within your monitored cities. If the origin is close to the US I think its definitely worthy of consideration.

    2. I haven’t implemented it for your site yet, but in twitter you can set it up so twitter will send you a text every time a new tweet is posted for a specific account you follow. You should post a tutorial as I’m sure some of the people want to know immediately if there is a new deal.

Thanks again, I’m extremely glad I found your site!

@Nick – the site is mostly automated. we manually validate the deals to make sure they are bookable and when its available. but the deal finding is automated. the site has been around since August, 2011 and we have posted over 8,200 deals since then.

As for origination from int’l cities close by the US, while we are US focus, we wouldn’t pass up on a $200ish deal from Mexico. As for a Twitter mobile notification tutorial, we know a lot of our twitter followers use it. We don’t recommend it — since we tweet a lot.
