Site Announcement: City-Based RSS Feeds + Other News

One of the most requested features is the ability to only have deals from a particular city via RSS, Email or whatnot. We have always offered city-based targeting for our Facebook fans with the exception of those in California, who get both Los Angeles and San Francisco deals in their news feed.

City-Based RSS Feeds

To get it in your RSS reader, go to menu, select Flight Deals then a city on the drop down. Only cities listed on the drop down will have a RSS feed.

Select your city (ex. Los Angeles) and you will see this URL on your browser:

To get the RSS feed, add “feed” to the end of the URL like this:

Then it’s just a matter of putting this URL in your RSS reader. Please note that we do not use RSS ourselves.  We assume this is how it works because when we tested it on Firefox’s Livemarks and Feedly, it worked properly. Unlike our main RSS feed at, city-based feeds are done via WordPress. There are no guarantees but please give it a whirl and let us know how it goes.

Airline-Based Searches

How do we say this gently? Having put considerable thought into this, we have concluded that we are unlikely going to implement this.  Unless we start posting hundreds of deals a day, this search won’t be that useful. If you go past page one from any of our coverage cities or page two from the homepage, the deal is probably no longer valid and therefore not very functional.

Email Transition

We are looking into rolling off Feedburner. This is our next big project from a user experience perspective.  We have a significant e-mail subscription base so we will make sure it is a smooth transition. Expect it in January 2014!

As always, thank you for your continued support,

The Flight Deal Team

    Excellent!!! Thank you!!

  2. bluecat says:

For those of us who want this same idea on Twitter, please let me know if it is possible!

    • TFD says:

@bluecat – anything is possible, but the idea of managing 12 individual twitter account + the main one is not something we can handle at the moment.

  3. Antonio says:

Will you be adding this for all cities? For example, I live in SBA. Even though there was a recent deal for SBA, there is no RSS feed for it. Thanks.

    • TFD says:

@Antonio – This is available only for our 12 coverage cities – New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Miami, Dallas, Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and Chicago. Any city that doesn’t fit within the 12 will be in the Other Cities URL, which isn’t that useful since it lacks targeting. Sorry.

OMG! Thank you! The site is now perfect.

  5. Trench says:

If I use NYC as a city code, will it cover JFK, LGA and EWR?

  6. Erik says:

Could you please explain how the city-based targeting works on Facebook? Thanks and love your site!

    • TFD says:

@Erik – go onto our facebook page at and you will only see deals to your specific city unless you are in California (which would get both LA and San Francisco deals). If it doesn’t show any deals then it means there’s nothing for your city.
