We are going to try this month to find deals between $800 – $900 or less for Summer travel – none with quantitative measurements (e.g., these be more than 6 cents per mile). It will be all qualitative (what we think is good). They might not earn miles.

This fare is not much more than Winter fares when they go on sale. If you are flexible last few weeks of August, this is a good deal for end of Summer travel.

• LAX – MUC (Munich) – VIE (Vienna) – MUC – LAX. Includes a potential overnight layover in Munich on the return. This can be avoided for a few dollars more and via Frankfurt.

• 12,386 miles. Lufthansa and United are members of the Star Alliance and are partners. However, since this fare is in K class, it will not earn any miles with United. It will earn 50% with Lufthansa’s frequent flyer program.
