United and its Star Alliance partners (Air Canada, Lufthansa, Brussels, Swiss, Austrian) are attacking American’s fares to Madrid [MAD], Barcelona [BCN] or Helsinki [HEL] for about $500 for mid August travel.

    Word to the wise, if you’re not an AC elite, you may also wanna avoid the Air Canada ROUGE operated flights, like YYZ-BCN, it’ll be on a very old 767 with tight seating. Elites or anyone willing to pay to book a better seat can still find comfort but otherwise it might be a bit miserable, it’s not Ryanair tight, but on longer flights it can be unpleasant.
