United is at it again to Moscow at $456. This is a slight price drop of $24 from last month.  The W fare is very reasonable at $922 for those with upgrade instruments.

Update 10/11/2014 @ 4:30AM Eastern – Delta has match this fare and lower the price even more. Delta’s fare is $418!!!

  • United: Valid for travel on the outbound October 27th – December 14th. Must purchase at least 3 days in advance of departure

  • United: ORD – FRA (Frankfurt) – DME (Moscow) – MUC (Munich) – ORD. To maximize mileage earning, make sure to take United operated flights between Chicago and Germany. Segments between Germany and Russia will be non-mileage earning. There are other routings which will be slightly cheaper by $20 or so, however, it would be non-mileage earning. 8,000+ miles is 2/3 of the miles needed for an domestic one-way award ticket. So spend the extra $20 and take a mileage earning routing.
  • Delta: ORD – JFK (New York) – SVO – JFK – ORD

Stopover:

Mileage:

United will be revenue based mileage earning starting March 1st, 2015. Miles will be earn base on elite qualifying dollars multiple by 5 as base level earning and up to 11 for 1K level members. We will be showing the 2015 base mileage earning for all United fares going forward to show how negative the changes are for a majority of United flyers.

United:

  • 2014: 11,350 miles or 4.0 cents per mile. The segments within Europe will earn 0 miles. As such, you will earn 8,877 miles or 5.1 cents per mile
  • March 1st, 2015:  1,527 miles or a difference of 7,350 miles.

Delta:

  • 2014: 10,794 miles or 3.9 cents per mile.
  • January 1st, 2015:  1,527 miles or a difference of 9,267 miles.
