United / Cathay Pacific – $863: Chicago – Hong Kong. Roundtrip, including all Taxes

A good sale to Hong Kong. United and Cathay is running a Black Friday special to Hong Kong. We recommend that you fly United as the Cathay Pacific fare is non-mileage earning with American or Alaska Airlines. The roundtrip will earn you over 15,000 miles with United.  That’s more than enough for an one way domestic award ticket — at minimum, it’s $150 in value.

Got a question about this deal and stopovers. I thought stopovers could only be done in connecting cities. This flight is direct (Chicago to Hong Kong) with no stops, but it still says two stopovers are allowed. Where might we be able to work in a stopover?

    • TFD says:

@Ozzy – that’s the sample, but UA is pretty liberal with routing — you can do something like ORD – NRT (Stopover) – HKG or ORD – SFO (Stopover) – HKG. Just have to make sure there’s availability. Prices be a bit higher (the $100 additional) + any taxes (e.g., going to Tokyo would incur Japanese immigration fees + fees associated with landing in Tokyo).
