United / Cathay Pacific: Newark – Hong Kong. $759. Roundtrip, including all Taxes

United and Cathay Pacific both have Newark to Hong Kong on sale for $759. This is United’s response to Cathay’s service launch to Newark. We recommend that you fly United because it’s 100% mileage earning, while Cathay will earn only 25% mileage with their Asia Miles program. It is over 16,000 miles to Hong Kong or enough for a one-way domestic ticket if you are flying United!

This is a great fare for nonstop service!

Update 9/19/2013 @ 3:30AM Eastern: United nonstop availability is dwindling — connections are still looking good for an extra $10 – $20. Cathay nonstop availability is still very good.

Update 9/23/2013 @ 4:00AM Eastern: Availability with United is still good with connection (e.g., San Francisco). Cathay nonstop availability is still very good. The fare expires today!!!

  1. Joel says:

Can you get AA miles for Cathay? What fare class is it?

  2. Paul says:

If you can book the CX flights as AA codeshares, you get 100% credit in AAdvantage.

    • TFD says:

@Paul – Yes, you can book the AA codeshare, but the cost goes up by about 100-200%. 16K miles isn’t worth 700-1400$ more dollars.

  3. Aileen says:

Are there any more CX flights that work for this deal anymore??
