Hyatt Visa Card – free night on renewal

This offer has expired.

Last year I got a Hyatt Visa card due to my extensive foreign travel. It was one of the few credit cards that did not charge a foreign exchange fee. In addition, they gave me 2 free nights at any Hyatt hotels worldwide including Park Hyatt’s. All that for a $75 annual fee.

Now that American Express Platinum does not have foreign exchange fees, I was going to cancel the Hyatt card. Lo and behold, a flyer comes in the mail today offering a free night good until September, 2012 at a category 1-4 Hyatt upon renewal. While that excludes most of the really nice hotels like the Park Hyatt Paris, there are still tons of nice options like Andaz West Hollywood in Los Angeles and Park Hyatt Hamburg. A free night at these would be greater than $75.

So I will keep it.

If you are interested in this card, go to and look for the Hyatt Visa banner and apply.

Hey – so what’s the best credit card to get for international travel? Is this one it? Should I wait for a special offer first? I’m not in a rush nor do I want to pay an annual fee.

      The team here likes two:
      1. American Express Platinum – $450 a year. Lounge access + $200 airline credit per year + free global entry + no f/x fees + a host of other benefits
      2. Chase Hyatt Visa – $85 a year. 2 free nights with any Hyatt anywhere in the world (we like the Park Hyatt Paris for that), free Platinum elite status + no f/x fees

These are in our wallets now. But in general, if you travel a lot, finding a card with no f/x fees is a winner. Most cards charge 2-3%, so if you spend for example $4,250 internationally annually, you breakeven on the annual fee for the Chase Hyatt Visa just on the f/x fees alone.
