American – $701: San Francisco – Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Roundtrip, including all Taxes

This is at minimum $200 less than we have seen Ho Chi Minh City go for from San Francisco and is $218 cheaper than yesterday’s United fare. This fare is hard to price and it is not easily searchable — it took us a bit to find the right combination to get this price out.

Update 9/12/2013 @ 12:00PM Eastern – fare gone.

Background Information:

  • Visa Requirements: US Citizens – Visa required prior to arrival. Prices vary. However, you may have an agent arrange a visa for pick-up upon arrival at Ho Chi Minh City Airport for a $20-25 handling fee paid upfront + $45 for the visa itself (also payable upon arrival). The Flight Deal team has used VietnamStay.com in the past for this service. It is much better than sending away your passport. Other nationals, check the TIMATIC Visa Database.

Hi, first I want to say thank you for all your useful information that you have provided for readers like me. Secondly, I would like to know what made you entered code LAX NRT to advanced routing code text box? Is there any secrets? Because without entering the codes the final price is higher. I have been using the ITA matrix to search for my trip (JFK- DAD around jan 2014 for 60 days) but I dont know what codes should I put to lower the price. Again thank you for sharing.

    • TFD says:

@Johnny – part of it is we have been doing it for a very long time so we have a general idea what the routing should be.

Your best bet for your particular trip is subscribe to ExpertFlyer for a month ($10). With it, you will see all the published fares between JFk-DAD and associated routings.

I tried entering in those sample dates and the cheapest I saw was $981. Does that mean they have been booked?
