    2 questions:

    1. Each travel engine returns different results, and many of them don’t return the cheap results from ITA. Is that normal?

    2. ITA requires the routing code in both trips to pull up the $500 fare. How would you search for $100 stopover using ITA’s multicities?

    (1) WAS – [Japan] –> input “dl+ / f bc=v”, or specify “the airlines approved for circle trips according to the fare code” in the routing field?

    (2) [Japan] – HKG –> specify approved airlines in routing field?

    (3) HKG – WAS –> still input “dl+ / f bc=v”?

    3. The fare code says it allows circle trip. Can you search it like stopover on ITA?

The Flight Deal 8 years ago Reply

@Ed – our stopover guide linked would provide you good info on finding and doing a stopover. it is a very manual process.

as for OTA resulting different results, that happens sometimes.

    Ed 8 years ago

Thank you. Yeah I actually went thru your guide and others, but couldn’t get anywhere. Because in this case the “dl+ / f bc=v” code is required to even pull up the parent ticket at the ~$500 price. But all the guides I could find don’t address this scenario. And I consulted as much ITA syntax and commands as I could to combine tickets.

The Flight Deal 8 years ago

@Ed – since you want to stopover in japan, we would try this in the routing code:

    outbound: sea nrt
    return: nrt sea

to see if it prices around the same price. if it does, then try to play with the stopover.

    Ed 8 years ago

Thank you! Too bad the deal seems to be over in the middle of me testing for destinations.

Do y’all have more in depth guides for ita syntax?

I coudln’t figure out how to search for multiple stopover cities as “OR” at once in the routing code. For ex, for the return trip, I tried “NRT,HND,NGO,ITM,KIX sea”, but that showed no results (vs. results for “nrt sea”, which wasn’t the same price)

The advanced code is not working the matrix.

The Flight Deal 8 years ago Reply

@Danielle – we just did it and its working fine. Does your ITA look like this?

    Danielle Des 8 years ago

I see what happened – during the summer nothing is showing up.

The Flight Deal 8 years ago

@Danielle – per the post, the valid travel period is: Valid for travel on the outbound from until mid May or late August – November or January, 2017 – February, 2017 for Monday through Thursday departures and returns. Must purchase at least 3 days in advance of departure.

so not going to work for summer.

I just booked using Priceline. I think it was a great idea for you to add Priceline cancellation policy to your booking pages. Note that Priceline showed the precise final cancellation time on the bottom of their last page prior to booking the reservation.

Newbie here. So how would I be able to earn the 17,756 miles for a class V fare?

The Flight Deal 8 years ago Reply

@p2y12 – you create a delta skymiles account on delta.com — it’s free, then add the # to the reservation. the 17,756 is elite qualifying miles — which for most is meaningless unless you fly a lot, miles you can actually use is 1,949 miles.

    Louis 8 years ago

You often suggest, as you do above, that miles be credited to Alaska Airlines. So shouldn’t we be setting up an account on that airline and asking that the miles be credited there? I imagine that this can be done until the flights are taken, maybe for a period of time afterwards.

The Flight Deal 8 years ago

@Louis – for some Delta marketed flights like this, we recommend non-frequent flyers crediting to Alaska because they earn more miles. we were just illustrating the process of getting the miles for a newbie.

I still struggle with ITA codes. I can put in exactly the codes you give and get the flights from IAH for that price. (great!).

Ok, so since I usually fly out of Austin I thought I would try a search that would route me AUS-IAH-HKG and back to see if I could get the $400 fare + what it might cost to add on the AUS-IAH leg.

    How can I code it?

The Flight Deal 8 years ago Reply

@Cynthia, the fare is not from AUS, so it is not possible to get that pricing from there. Only Newark, DC, Chicago, San Francisco, Denver and Houston will price in the $400s.

    Cynthia 8 years ago

I understand that. I wanted to see if it would price the $400 plus the amount if I added on AUS. See if it would be worth the trouble of getting a separate ticket AUS-IAH-AUS or if it would be just as easy for a little more $ to price it all as one ticket.

My problem is I don’t know the correct syntax for adding AUS to the routings.

The Flight Deal 8 years ago

@Cynthia – most cheap tickets now-a-days do not let you do end to end ticketing (e.g., add a segment to a cheap ticket). In this particular instance, it would’ve priced as as AUS – Tokyo.
