You can get this for about $150 cheaper on Ukraine Airlines via Kiev on some dates in the Fall — but you will be flying on a Boeing 767 with 2 x 4 x 2 seating in coach or very very tight spaces when the standard is 2 x 3 x 2. And for Winter travel, Norwegian and Icelandic Air will be cheaper, but this is nonstop versus connection. Also less fees on American vs Norwegian.

In terms of comfort, American runs two flights a day between New York and Paris. You want to be on flight 44 and 45 — those are on the Boeing 767 with 2 x 3 x 2 seating vs flight 120 and 121 which is on a Boeing 757 with 3 x 3 seating.

Added bonus: works for a long Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Martin Luther King, Valentine’s Day/President’s Day weekend getaway.

Does not meet our 6 cents per mile criterion – just a pretty good fare for nonstop service to Paris.
