American, US Airways and United are going at it with attack fares to Mexico City. Here’s what we found:

American / US Airways availability from the following cities:

  • Newark [EWR]
  • San Francisco [SFO]
  • Houston [IAH]
  • Denver [DEN]
  • Cleveland [CLE]

United availability:

  • Dallas [DFW]
  • Philadelphia [PHL]
  • Phoenix [PHX]
  • Miami [MIA]
  • Charlotte [CLT]

Fare Availability:

  • Valid for travel on from August – September 30th. Availability is limited. Must purchase at least 3 days in advance of departure and
  • Please note that while this fare is valid at time of posting, if this post is more than two days old, the fare is likely gone.

How to Search for Availability:

  • Use ITA Software Matrix Airfare Search and use the following search criteria:
    • Departing from: EWR
      • For other cities, replace EWR with airport code listed above
    • Outbound Advanced Routing Code: us us /maxconnect 360
      • For American availability, replace us us /maxconnect 360 with aa aa /maxconnect 360 on both Outbound and Return Advanced Routing Code fields
      • For United availability, replace us us /maxconnect 360 with ua ua /maxconnect 360 on both Outbound and Return Advanced Routing Code fields
        • The /maxconnect 360 option is telling ITA to search only for connections under 6 hours. There are some itineraries with overnight layovers — if you don’t care, remove it to search for all possible options.
    • Destination: MEX
    • Return Advanced Routing Code: us us /maxconnect 360
    • (Click on Advanced Routing Codes link to enable advanced routing code input)
    • Select “See calendar of lowest fares”
    • Length of stay “3-10” (This is just a sample, you can use any 7 day date range like 3-10, 7-14 etc)

    SFO-MEX requires overnight in PHX both directions. Hardly seems worth it.
