This is very exciting news for travelers in the Bay Area, especially those traveling to the Indian subcontinent, Middle East, and Africa. Beginning April 13th, 2015, Turkish Airlines will launch non-stop from Istanbul to San Francisco.

During the first month of service, it will operate five times a week except for Wednesdays and Saturdays. On May 11th, 2015, it will go daily. The schedule has been loaded as this:

San Francisco -> Istanbul:

  • Turkish Airlines (TK) flight #80: 6:10PM -> 5:05PM (next day)

Istanbul -> San Francisco:

  • Turkish Airlines (TK) flight #79: 1:05PM -> 4:25PM (same day)

Here’s the initial pricing from ITA and Orbitz for a non-stop flight to Istanbul — they are in Q class.  There is no W class (cheapest fare class) availability yet.

The flight will be operated on a Boeing 777-300ER series plane with business class and coach seating. Business will be in a 2x3x2 configuration while coach will be in a 3x3x3 configuration.

While we don’t feature Turkish Airline deals because their cheap tickets are non-mileage earning, this is a net-positive for United and Delta flyers. If you have followed the site for a long time, you see that we have deals frequently to the Middle East, Africa and India from Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Boston. That’s due to the influence and price leadership from Turkish Airlines and, to a lesser extent, the Middle Eastern 3 (Emirates, Etihad, and Qatar).  Based on historic revenue management practice, United and Delta have generally matched Turkish fares. The trend should continue in San Francisco.
