The under $500 Iguazu Falls deal from New York, Los Angeles and Miami that we posted on Friday and Saturday allows for stopovers in South America. Doing this will require trial and error plus time!

Potential stopover points include:

  • Rio de Janeiro
  • Sao Paulo
  • Santiago de Chile
  • Lima

We will show stopovers in Rio and Sao Paulo from New York. Iguazu Falls is served by LAN from Lima (LIM) and it’s affiliate TAM from Belém (BEL), Brasília, Curitiba (CWB), Maceió (MCZ), Rio de Janeiro-Galeão (GIG) , Salvador da Bahia (SSA), São Paulo (GRU). From the United States, LAN serves Santiago de Chile (SCL) from Miami and New York, Lima (LIM) from Los Angeles, Miami and New York. It seems to require the US to South American segment to be operated by LAN, but US to US segments can be operated by American and intra-South American segments can be a mixture of LAN, LAN Peru, TAM and the rest of LAN’s South American affiliates.

Finding stopovers is a manual process and requires trial and error. We always recommend finding roundtrip availability first, so find New York or Los Angeles or Miami – Iguazu Falls roundtrip first. Once you find availability for the roundtrip, then start playing with the multi-city function to see if there’s availability for a stopover inside those dates. If you want to do two stopovers (it might exist, we haven’t looked), it is probably advisable to put one stopover before Iguazu Falls and one after. There’s no automated process! So just play around with the multi-city function on Orbitz.

We managed to get our stopovers to price at $522; expect it to be under $600 if you find a stopover to work.

can you put up any routings via LAX

    THANKS

    • TFD says:

@S – we put up a routing to GRU from LAX. Its trial and error, hope it will help. We found CheapTickets was the best to get it to price for LAX.

      • z says:

LAX-SCL-IGU-LAX works in the low 600’s for many dates in november

        try using hipmunk

  2. David says:

Would it work to skip the Iguazu flights in order to get a cheap ticket to SCL? Especially if LAN is covering the NYC-SCL flights and TAM are on the SCL-Iguazu flights? I know generally the return can be cancelled if you are a no show on any part of the flight but if it’s different airlines I wanted to see if tie worked differently. Thanks!

  3. Sunny says:

Thank you so much for finding this amazing deal! Just booked a family vacation from JFK:visiting both Buenos Aires and Iguazu Falls, for under $600 per person!
