United – Starting at $149: US – Europe / India / Israel / Middle East / Australia. Roundtrip, including all Taxes

The deal is gone. If you purchased and waiting for ticketing, please just be patient. DO NOT CALL!

Wideroe.no, a Norweign airline is not including fuel surcharges on fares on United Airlines between the United States and Europe Israel, India, the Middle East and Australia. We tested a few city pairs and for all itineraries with United flights, the fuel surcharge is not included. Just a few caveats for those intending to book:

  • It is an European site, so US DOT regulations on mistake fare might not necessarily apply
  • This will be billed in Norwegian Krone, so use a no fee foreign exchange credit card like American Express Platinum or Chase Sapphire to book to save on the 2-3% fees
  • Don’t book a hotel yet til its confirmed (e.g., you receive a confirmation with a ticket NUMBER!!!. A ticket number is NOT a record locator (Six Letters). It should be 016-XXXXXXXXXXXXX.)
  • Don’t call any service providers (wideroe, United etc). Repeat, DO NOT CALL!
  • With these deals, you win some and lose some. There is always the next deal if this one doesn’t work out.
  • Be proactive – great tip from urifintzy: “Our bank tried to decline transaction because it’s a Norwegian site. Contacted Fraud dept and told them its okay.” So call your bank to let them know you are or will be making a transaction in Norway
  • Book now, ask questions later.

Update 1 @ 11/23/2013 at 1:10PM Eastern – some availability to India. See screenshot below. Washington D.C. – Mumbai for under $300! Not all city pairs might work.

Update 2 @ 11/23/2013 @ 1:15PM Eastern – all transatlantic routes including Israel and the rest of the Middle East

Update 3 @ 11/23/2013 @ 1:45PM Eastern – Los Angeles – Sydney. $716.

Update 4 @ 11/23/2013 @ 2:50PM Eastern – Newark – Milan is by far the cheapest at $149.

Update 5 @ 11/23/2013 @ 4:00PM Eastern. Phone number problem? Thanks to Jill: Put only +1 in the left box. Then put the area code and the full 7 digit number in the right box. No dashes, parentheses etc.

Update 6 @ 11/23/2013 @ 4:15PM Eastern – wideroe is loading very slowly. Get a cup of coffee while you wait. It does load. Or try the advance search screen: https://www.wideroe.no/book/?l=en&adv=yes (copy and paste it)

Update 7 @ 11/23/2013 @ 8:45PM Eastern – multiple reports that it is erroring out after the passenger information screen. This looks like its gone or will soon to be gone. Now it is a waiting game for the ticket to be issued. We have been getting multiple reports that it is taking anywhere from 4 – 4.5 hours to be ticketed vs just being confirmed.

Update 8 @ 11/23/2013 @ 11:00PM Eastern – if you have a segment with Jet Airways or FlyDubai, your itinerary will be canceled and you will be soon receive this email:

Dear Customer

We were unable to complete your order. Your reservation has been canceled. Your credit card has not been charged.

The reason is that we do not have ticketing agreements with one or more airlines on your itinerary.

Please disregard the automatic confirmation we sent you by e-mail.

We apologize for the inconvenience and recommend that you book your travel directly from the airline’s website or via a travel agent.

Sincerely,

Widerøe Internet Booking

Update 9 @ 11/25/2013 @ 12:15PM Eastern – be patient. If you are, most questions including will it be honored? or when will it be ticketed? will sort itself out.

Update 10 @ 11/26/2013 @ 3:00AM Eastern – just to answer a few questions:

  1. Name change – not something that can be done. Small corrections (like a simple misspelling) can be done. But name change, no. It is airlines way of preventing speculation — e.g., people buying up all the cheap tickets and then reselling them.
  2. Date change – unlikely either. These fares are non-refundable with a change fee. The change fee is $300 (standard for all United international tickets). A date change will trigger a change fee or $300 + any fare difference.
  3. Cancellation – if you pass the 24 hour cancellation period, canceling for most tickets do not make sense as the change fee even for the refundable tickets (an example of an itinerary that was refundable was LAX-DXB) is $300 and most tickets sold was under $300.
  4. Extra ticket – e.g., booked 3 but need only 2. Wait for this to settle down — like next week or so. Then reach out to split the record locator to one that is traveling and one that isn’t. Then cancel the one that isn’t traveling — you will be out of the cost of that ticket since these fares are non-refundable and have a $300 change fee.
  5. Basically, these fares are no different than a normal fare when it comes to the terms and conditions.

The deal is gone. If you purchased and waiting for ticketing, please just be patient. DO NOT CALL!
