This fare requires you to start in Mexico City — getting from the United States to Mexico City can be reasonable depending on where you start. For example, from Los Angeles and San Francisco, Mexico City can usually be done for about $300.

That said, the possibility of going to Easter Island is worth the trek. LAN has a special promotional fare from Mexico City to Easter Island for $468. If you have miles, the incremental cost is very low. Even if you have to buy a positioning flight from the US to Mexico City, you can do Easter Island for a relatively low fare. The team went in November, 2011. Look at the picture! Worth the trip!

For those interested in Business Class, there is a business class fare from LAN for about $1,500!

Here is the LAN / AA mile earning chart: http://www.aa.com/i18n/AAdvantage/earnMiles/travel/airlines/lan.jsp

Too bad so many of their flights only earn 25% of the flown miles.

    • TFD says:

@Grant – yeah. still under 6 cents and getting to an exotic destination for under 6 cents is a very good deal.

  2. Grant says:
